On Sunday afternoon, an Amtrak train collided with an automobile near Brentwood, California, killing three people instantly.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the tragic crash happened at around 1pm close to the intersection of Orwood Road and Bixler Road.
According to the authorities, the Amtrak train struck the four-door sedan as it was pulling into a lengthy, rural dirt lane.
The vehicle then veered off the road, colliding with another automobile before coming to a stop some 60 feet away.
While one person sustained mild injuries, two adults and a child both received critical injuries that required hospitalisation.
According to ABC News, they were taken to the John Muir Medical Center right after following the collision.
According to nearby sources, at least two victims were observed laying on a dirt embankment about 25 feet away from the car.
A quarter of a mile from the scene of the collision, a five-car Amtrak passenger train could be seen halted.
There were reportedly 80 passengers on the train at the time of the crash, but nobody was hurt, according to officials.
More information will be given once the investigation into the collision is complete.
When Fatima Jimenez, who was at a nearby fundraiser, hurried to the crash site, she discovered two dead people on the ground as well as a kid who had been drenched in blood.
She claimed to have assisted in removing a man from the car’s wreckage by telling the local media.
“It was disorderly. I’m still in shock; there are no words to adequately express it.”
According to sources, East Contra Costa Fire Department personnel were already dispatched to the same train crossing twice last year as a result of the lack of a traffic guard.
Medium- and long-distance intercity train service is offered by Amtrak throughout the United States and Canada.
